Positive: This cabin is self-catering which is ideal because it’s easy to buy fresh fruit and veggies at the market stalls. I relished the delicious, healthy avocados, mangoes and bananas grown on the farms on the area. I had a delightful stay in this tranquil, rustic guesthouse in the lush, tropical forest for three sublime months, escaping the bleak English winter. My favourite thing was sitting with a cuppa on the balcony in the gentle sunshine, listening to the birds sing, while gazing across the valley at the farms nestled amongst towering oaks, and banana and mango trees. Past a canopy of crimson bougainvillea, Obadiah’s farm is right next door. I discovered that my host was extremely helpful sharing his extensive knowledge of the region. I loved strolling into the vibrant markets to buy fresh fruit and veggies from the friendly locals and then jumping on a Boda Boda (motorbike taxi) for an exhilarating ride home. The house is cosy and comfortable for one guest, a couple, a family or group of friends. With a large furnished double bedroom and second bedroom with bunks, there is plenty of sleeping space. And a nice hot shower in a walk-in shower room, two hand basins and flushing toilet. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a small fridge and stove-top for cooking. I devoured super healthy tropical food fresh from nature and felt so revitalised. The lounge room is relaxing with space for a desk with good internet for your laptop and phone. The front and back gardens are bursting with flowers, vegetables and herbs and the property is well-fenced for security and privacy. I enjoyed a road trip with my Kenyan friends to Lake Nakuru National Park to see the beautiful flamingos and an enthralling array of wild animals. And I had fun with the neighbouring farm’s litter of puppies. It was delightful. I also did voluntary work at the Faraja Community Centre. I recommend the guesthouse to anyone seeking a natural retreat from the pressures of hectic city life
Negative: I loved the seclusion and tranquillity of being nestled amongst the tropical forests and nearby farms. I enjoyed relaxing on the balcony gazing at the beautiful view.
Summary: The cabin was perfect for me seeking a break from the cold English winter in sunny, friendly Kenya.
