NEIGHBORHOOD
Montorfano is a small town in the province of Como. It takes 15 minutes by car to reach the center of Como. If you wish to stay in Montorfano, you will still find nearby shops, bars, and restaurants, and a 15-minute walk will take you to the public beach (lido) where you will find a beach bar and a restaurant.
GETTING AROUND
For the convenience of guests, we recommend arriving by car. Traveling to and from Montorfano is fairly easy even by public transport. Several bus lines allow you to reach nearby towns such as Como and other lake locations. Tickets can be purchased from the driver (cash only) or at designated sales points. Please note that buses do not run very often and service stops around 10:00 PM! Taxis are available but are not easily accessible in the region.
From Como, it is easy to reach Milan and Switzerland (Lugano, Bellinzona, Locarno) by train. Public ferries also depart from the pier in the center of Como to other lake towns. The nearest airports are Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, and Orio Al Serio in Bergamo. A direct shuttle service to and from the airport can be arranged at an additional cost.

TIPS
If you feel like walking, the center of Como is reachable on foot with a walk of about an hour. Take the main road to Villa Olmo, then there is a pedestrian path along the lake.
For traveling and walking around Lake Como, especially in small towns, it is necessary to wear comfortable shoes.
In the towns, there are many public fountains, and the water is drinkable unless otherwise indicated. Tap water is also drinkable. You can bring your refillable bottle!
From Montorfano, there are many hiking possibilities in the nearby woods, up to the surrounding mountains.
If you are looking for an easy hike in the area and still want to enjoy mountain views, the Greenway of Lake Como is an easy-to-follow trail that does not require much climbing. The Greenway crosses towns from Colonno to Griante. From Montorfano, you can reach the starting point in Colonno by bus. Another pleasant and relaxing hiking trail in the area is the Via Verde, which connects Moltrasio to Laglio.
In Italy, many shops (especially small ones) and services are closed in the middle of the day, so be careful to plan your shopping accordingly.
Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the deepest in Italy. Swimming and diving are prohibited in many areas and can be dangerous. For those who want to immerse themselves in the water, however, there are some options. In Montorfano, the lake lido has a swimming pool. In nearby Moltrasio, there is a small beach. In Como city, there is an outdoor pool near Villa Olmo, but swimming in the lake is mostly discouraged or prohibited. Locals and visitors also enjoy going to Nesso, where the bravest can dive into the lake from the ancient Roman bridge near the waterfall.
Lake Como is located in a mountainous region. The surrounding pre-Alps do not seem very high, but the climate is still influenced by the nearby mountains, and temperatures can change quickly. Pay special attention to weather conditions during hikes and bring warm and waterproof clothing!
