Positive: Off Grid is the proper term: one sign in Kozelnik, than almost 2 km's off in the boondocks, over hard to manage gravel and rocky roads (hint: when possible, opt for the grassy side of the path so you don' t have to back up time & again because of skidding front wheels). You arrive at a hard-to-grasp excentricity: a work in progress, labelled a Funny Farm, with free roaming cows, dogs, chicken, sheep and ... people. "Rooms" are small wood panelled spaces hosting a bed (or two), some sockets (with electricity!), and a main light, giving off to a joint hallway (shoes to be taken off before entering this corridor, so the milkomat dung does not get transferred into the "inhabitable" space). No room numbers, no card keys, no keys whatsoev, just sliding doors of recently cut & sized pine planks! If you insist on some privacy, slide the doors past the wheels at the top, otherwise it is open season for peeping toms. The hosts are part of a tribe or commune, hard to figure out who is who, let alone who belongs to whom (a father Xmas zooming to and fro on a motorized unicycle kisses all women hosts; e.g.) This accommodation for a ridiculously low price, is truly off the grid; let go of any set ideas of a Slovak B&B, pension or lodge, and just let this place, its odd but friendly people &its nature sink in. One must be open minded: some of the dogs, like the main Krava (cow Milkomat) roam around freely on the premises. Follow their example and you will discover the cleverly built, well equiped open-air (open: up & down) toilet - a small cabana where, while s(h)itting, you can watch the weather channel, unload & practice your wake boarding all at once ;-). Breakfast is great; the device you figured was waiting for the scrap collection, turns out to be the oven & furnace for frying sausages, boiling eggs, preparing coffee. Everything is fresher than fresh, locally produced and recently milked (the Krava) or harvested.
Negative: No proper signage to the farm; access road hard to manage on a frontwheel drive on a dry day, no idea if I had gotten up there on a wet day... (the community of hosts understandably sport 4x4's & motorized unicycles). The accommodation is a work-in-progress, with progress taking place while you are there: half finished stairs, a nice deck without fence on one side, rocky steps leading to a platform which must be one muddy slippery slide in wet conditions; stairs being installed while you are having breakfast (we left just an hour too soon to enjoy using them as access...). No information posted anywhere on the premises; a lot is trial-and-error/DIY-discovery. The property claims accessible Wifi, but no info is posted or povided on the required access code or password. Upon arrival, as the commune is sitting together watching you struggle on the - in our case dry & dusty - road, it is hard to figure out who is host and who is guest. In the end, you ask anyone you meet, for info or guidance. The eco outhouse is great, but a nono at night without a headlight (the hsower at then end of the hallway turned out to be very popular at night)! The provided towels were ripped (i.e. the ones we use at home as old rags), the keeper had not emptied the fully loaded trash can of the previous occupant)... Breakfast is homemade, fully fresh, wholesome and good, but the "seating" area is a combo of a wood chopping place (stepping over the axe every time you get coffee or bread) and old (railway?) beams. The propietor definitely needs to still do major upgrading work to turn the lodge into an acceptable off-grid for every one.
