Conroy's Old Bar is especially suited to those who have a love of the great outdoors. Who would like to experience the true beauty and tranquillity of rural/remote Ireland, whilst staying in a converted authentic Irish village bar.
Conroy's is situated close to Lough Derg/Terryglass and the River Shannon. And on the border of Counties Clare, Galway and Offaly, in the small friendly village of Aglish in North Tipperary.
Walking into Conroy's Old Bar is just as you would expect a typical, traditional, characterful Irish rural village bar to be. So much so, that you would think it's business as usual.
At first glance you would never know that Conroy's no longer holds a liquor licence, and is completely DRY of alcohol, that so, it has been discreetly adapted into quirky self-catering accommodation that sleeps 4 +cot.
It's not until you take a closer look that you realise, even though Conroy's Old Bar has retained all of its charm and character, including its open fire, Conroy's Old Bar is hiding a little secret all of its own…….
The original highly polished mahogany bar, complete with bar pumps, optics and the original till is where you will also find neatly hidden behind it, the fully functioning kitchen, with fridge, full size cooker etc. The bar area with its Liscannor stone floor is also home to the darts board and the skittles game.
The lounge with its cosy real turf/log fire is also home to all manner of pub games, books, maps and tourist information. It's the perfect place to relax and toast your toes after a long day of taking in what this beautiful and very often overlooked area of rural Ireland has to offer.
The old snug next to the lounge is now a double bedroom with en-suite wc and what was once the cellar/barrel store is now home to a super king-sized bed, complete with the old beer barrel delivery door and sloping floor to aid the moving of the barrels.
There is also a shower room with very large shower.
There is full central heating and all linen, towels and fuel are provided.
Outside there is a large beer garden with numerous seating and BBQ areas, from which there are views over the Tipperary countryside. It's the perfect place to watch the sun go down, sat in front of the open outdoor fire. The garden is also home to our 2 friendly chickens, who provide us and our guests with beautiful fresh eggs.
Conroy's Old Bar is child friendly and all baby/child equipment is available. (Cot's, high chairs etc. at NO extra cost)
New -The World of Fairies, Fairy Garden.
Children can while away the hours discovering the real life homes of the Fairy Folk, as they hunt for Fairy doors and houses in the enchanting Fairy Garden. Perhaps enjoy a Tea Party in Milo Burrows Hobbit Hole, or sail away in the Leprechauns Pirate Ship, they can even design their very own Fairy doors on our huge chalk boards.
Disabled Facilities.
Being all on one level means Conroy's Old Bar is friendly to the slightly infirm or those who have trouble with stairs. The shower is large enough to put a chair into, to help with those who are unable to stand for longer periods. Unfortunately due to a couple of narrow doorways, it has to be said that Conroy's is not too wheelchair friendly.
For anyone who has specific needs, we are always more than happy to talk with you, to see if we can arrange and adapt the furniture etc. to make your stay a more pleasant one.
Only a short walk from Conroy's Old Bar you will find the village pub and a lovely children's playground. There is also a church and the village hall.
Within a 20 mile radius you will find fishing, boating/sailing, water sports, walking, cycling, golf, horse riding/hunting, photography, go carting or even astronomy and genealogy.

Conroy's Old Bar is in the small RURAL (some would describe as remote) village of Aglish, where due to it's rural location and lack of public transport, we do advise the use of a car/rental car, to be able to make the most of what the surrounding area has to offer.
It is fair to say that there can be more driving involved when staying in such a rural location as Conroy's. Eg: The need to drive to good pubs, restaurants or the shops, if you forget/run out of something.
Conroy's does NOT have lots of large tourist attractions on it's doorstep (thankfully). But what this does mean, is that Conroy's is perfectly situated for those who wish to get away from the tourist trap part of Ireland, yet would like to explore the vast array of interesting, smaller scale attractions, that are available to discover around the area.
Also, being so centrally located in Ireland, does mean that when staying in Conroy's Old Bar you are no more than 2hrs drive from all major cities (Dublin 2hrs, Galway 1hr, Cork 2hrs, Waterford 2hrs).
There is NO shop in the village (nearest 4 miles Borrisokane) or restaurant (nearest 6 miles Terryglass).
Aglish may not be the first place you would choose to go on holiday, but it does happen to be where The World's 1st Self Catering Pub is located, conveniently in the centre of Ireland.
It's a friendly village with a (working) pub, children's playground and church.
As Conroy's is an original pub, it is situated close to the road with no front garden, but does have a large, secure, private rear garden.
Conroy's is in a rural area, with tractor's and agricultural machinery passing by.
Unfortunately, Conroy's Old Bar is NOT suitable for pets, due to a member of our family being a chronic allergy sufferer.
***We advise all guests to take out their own Travel Insurance, in case of cancellation.***
