As you enter Ceithir, you’ll find a convenient porch to hang coats and store your boots, bags and rucksacks. Moving into the bright and airy spacious living/dining room, there is a dining table with chairs and a modern wood burner with a couple of tub chairs and reading lights – the perfect place to relax when it’s wet outside or after a day on the hills. To the left, the welcoming sitting room has an open fire, two leather sofas and 40” Smart TV with Netflix subscription included. The Wi-Fi router is located below the TV – the high-speed connection allows Wi-Fi calling, video calls and streaming. The hand-built wooden kitchen lies to the rear of the property and comes fully equipped, including Nespresso machine and baking equipment. There is a separate utility room with washing machine, tumble-dryer, dishwasher, drying rack, iron and ironing board. Upstairs are the two bedrooms, one double and one twin, both with Egyptian cotton bed linen, chest of drawers, hanging space and hairdryer. Also upstairs are the shower room and separate toilet.
To the front of the cottage, the south-facing bench and table offer the perfect place to enjoy morning coffee, lunch or an evening meal, while taking in views of Loch Bracadale and MacLeod’s Tables. The kitchen rear door provides access to the garden, with a bench and table, and elevated seating providing panoramic views of MacLeod’s Tables, the Black Cuillins and Loch Bracadale. There are also washing lines and a hose for cleaning muddy boots.
Ceithir is perfectly located for many of Skye’s attractions, in both the north and south of the island, for example, for a quick Isle-of-Skye fix, head 2.5 miles south to Dun Beag Broch, an Iron-age round tower at the top of a short, steepish climb, with gorgeous sunsets and views of the Cuillins, Loch Harport and over Loch Bracadale to the Outer Hebrides. Or, head to Oronsay Island, accessible a couple of hours either side of low tide via a causeway - turn off at Dun Beag Broch.
Carbost, with the Talisker Distillery and the delightful Old Inn, is only 20 minutes to the south, whilst 20 minutes north is Colbost, home of the Three Chimneys restaurant; 10 minutes more and you’re in Glendale, with gorgeous views out to North Uist. Sligachan, gateway to the Cuillins, is less than 30 minutes away. The Coral Beach, Fairy Pools and Neist Point Lighthouse (great for dolphin- / whale-watching) are all less than 40 minutes away.
A bit further afield- 45 mins to 1 hr - are the Old Man of Storr, Quiraing and Trotternish Ridge giving spectacular views over Staffin Beach (with its dinosaur prints) to the mountains on the mainland, and out to the Outer Hebrides. Dunvegan is only 10 minutes away - visit Dunvegan Castle, historic seat of the MacLeods; take a boat trip to see the seals; and enjoy all the local facilities - Skye’s oldest bakery, a greengrocer, convenience store, petrol station, Post Office, fishing tackle shop and some excellent restaurants.
Struan, half a mile on from Dun Beag Broch, has a small shop/post office open Mon-Fri mornings, and a lovely local café. Portree, the island’s capital, full of independent shops and restaurants, along with the closest supermarket, cinema and swimming pool, is only 30 minutes away - and the view as you approach Bracadale on the way back will make you smile.
